Only a doctor, who has experience in medical treatment of obesity, can prescribe Metermine.

A decision to start using Metermine should be taken:

  • On the basis of physical examination and history of obesity
  • After performing diagnostic tests and procedures

Several groups of patients who can use this drug for weight loss are indicated in the package insert for Metermine.

  1. Firstly, Metermine is prescribed only for obese patients who cannot reduce their body weight without medications.
  2. Secondly, this drug is prescribed only for obese men and women with a body mass index (BMI) of 30 or higher.
  3. Thirdly, Metermine pills are prescribed only to patients who have no organic causes of weight gain.
  4. Fourthly, diagnostic tests should confirm absence of contraindications to the use of Metermine.
  5. Fifthly, this drug is not to be used in combination with drugs that can affect its pharmacological / pharmacodynamic properties.

As an exception, Metermine can be prescribed to patients with a BMI of 25 and greater. One of the prerequisites for Metermine prescription to patients with a BMI of 25 to 30 is the presence of diseases that can progress rapidly because of excess weight.

Regardless of severity of obesity and associated risk factors, Metermine is prescribed for continuous treatment of obesity, lasting no more than 3 months.

Metermine can be used for intermittent obesity therapy. However, before each course of treatment, medical examination should be necessarily carried out to make sure that benefits of Metermine still exceed its potential risks.
